Design Story

The composition reads as a book plate: a tall illustrated panel on the left, a narrow typographic spine on the right carrying THE MIDNIGHT STAIRCASE above the line SOME DOORS SHOULD STAY CLOSED. Gargoyles hold the lower corners as visual anchors, ravens punctuate the mid-ground, and lantern flames drop warm amber accents into a palette of graphite, aged gold and deep oxblood ivy. Nothing moves. The full moon and arched gothic doorway sit on a quiet central axis, so the eye climbs the steps rather than being pushed. Ornate corner scrollwork and a skull medallion close the border with deliberate symmetry.

Entryway & Styling

On a rectangular doormat the layout works because it is built for the overhead view: the illustrated panel fills the wide field, the vertical text column balances it, and the decorative border keeps the motif contained within the mat's footprint. Placed at a threshold, the staircase reads as an extension of the doorway behind it.
